About this tool

The text toolkit counts words and characters and cleans up text. It can collapse repeated spaces, remove extra blank lines, and change text to lowercase, UPPERCASE or Title Case.

How to use it

  1. Paste or type your text into the Text box.
  2. Choose an action: count words and characters, clean repeated spacing, lowercase, uppercase or title case.
  3. Choose Run tool. Counts are shown in the result; changed text can be copied with Copy result.

Screen-reader and keyboard tips

Results appear in a live region, so VoiceOver, NVDA, JAWS and TalkBack read the answer as soon as it is ready without moving your focus. Press Tab to move between fields and Shift+Tab to go back. On an iPhone or iPad, swipe right with one finger to move through the form and double-tap to activate a button.

Questions and answers

Does title case follow a style guide?

It capitalises the first letter of every word. Small words such as “and” or “of” may need adjusting by hand for formal titles.

How much text can I paste?

Up to 20,000 characters.
