The password generator creates a strong random password using your device’s secure random-number generator (the Web Crypto API). It is a quick way to make a unique password for a new account.
How to use it
- Choose a length between 12 and 64 characters. The default is 20.
- Choose whether to include uppercase letters, numbers and symbols. Lowercase letters are always included.
- Choose Run tool, then Copy result to copy the password.
- Paste it into your password manager or the account you are creating.
Screen-reader and keyboard tips
Results appear in a live region, so VoiceOver, NVDA, JAWS and TalkBack read the answer as soon as it is ready without moving your focus. Press Tab to move between fields and Shift+Tab to go back. On an iPhone or iPad, swipe right with one finger to move through the form and double-tap to activate a button.
- Screen readers may read a password as a word. To hear it character by character, use your screen reader’s character navigation (for example, VoiceOver Control-Option-Right Arrow with character navigation, or the arrow keys in NVDA browse mode).
- If a website does not accept some symbols, turn off Symbols and generate again.
Ways people use it
- Creating a unique password for each new account.
- Replacing a password that was reused or exposed in a data breach.
- Generating a temporary Wi-Fi password.
Questions and answers
Is the password sent anywhere?
No. It is generated in your browser and is not stored or transmitted by this site.
How long should a password be?
Longer is stronger. Twenty or more random characters is a good default, and a password manager means you never need to memorise it.
Should I also use two-factor authentication?
Yes. A strong password plus two-factor authentication protects accounts far better than either alone.
Privacy
Passwords are created on your device with secure randomness and never leave it. Clear your clipboard after pasting if you share the device. Read the Privacy Policy for details.
